The Sleep Event Goes From Strength To Strength…

The Sleep Event 2008

The Sleep Event 2008, Europe's leading event for the hotel-design industry, saw over three-thousand people attend this influential and stunning event on 4-5th November. The show, the only one of its kind in Europe, is devoted to hotel design, development and architecture. The Business Design Centre, Islington, played host to 3567 attendees, including hotel owners, operators, designers, architects, investors, developers, contractors and consultants, as well as those who service and supply the industry. The European Hotel Design Awards 2008 also hosted 833 guests from across the UK and Europe. The show relocated this year from Old Billingsgate, due to demand for space and further anticipated growth.

The event, formally run by Mondiale Publishing, was acquired by UBM Live in July 2008. Event Director Cathy Oates commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have acquired The Sleep Event. It occupies a unique and hugely authoritative position in the hotel design industry, one which we intend to nurture and strengthen in partnership with Mondiale and Sleeper Magazine”.

The show offers a unique combination of a high-end design-led exhibition, high-level conference and prestigious awards ceremony. It serves the rapidly expanding European Hotel industry, providing a platform for some of the leading names in hotel design, to display their stunning new concepts and meet with key decision makers.

This year's conference programme included a number of prominent speakers including Chris Sanderson of The Future Laboratory who gave a keynote presentation on future trends in travel and hospitality. Sir David Michels, the former CEO of Hilton and now a director of EasyJet and Strategic Hotels & Resorts also gave an insightful interview to Patrick Reardon of ReardonSmith.

New features introduced at this year's show include 'The Suite Spot' - an area dedicated to roomsets created through collaborations between leading furniture manufacturers, and 'Room Services', a display area for companies offering design and construction related services.

The 2009 event is set to return to The Business Design Centre, from 3-4 November.
