New Bespoke Sustainable Furniture Collection Launched

Planted

The high-end bespoke furniture market has today gained a new, natural addition with the launch of Planted; a brand-new collection of handmade sofas, armchairs and footstools, created using entirely recycled, recyclable or biodegradable materials in order to bridge the gap between style and sustainability in the home.

Planted, launched today, is the creation of husband and wife team Daisy Brazil and Toby Keylock, who boast 10+ years of experience in the upholstery and furniture-making industry. Created in reaction to the lack of quality, style-conscious sustainable soft furnishings  within the high-end and bespoke corner of the furniture market, Planted has been a concept over 3 years in the making for the creative duo.

The collection offers beautiful, bespoke furniture options that fit effortlessly within the modern home, built by hand and made to last using natural and consciously-sourced materials. With a strong focus on home health, Daisy and Toby were keen to introduce a collection that is made using as little in the way of chemical treatments and plastics as possible - a staple of the furniture industry as it stands - with natural solutions and materials instead used wherever possible.

Planted's launch collection incorporates a selection of 2 and 3-seater sofas, armchairs and footstools, built using traditional techniques with every element traceable back to its original maker; be it a frame maker, upholsterer or seamstress. Each element of every piece is recyclable, recycled or biodegradable -  including recycled cotton, sustainable linen covers and recycled zips - and crafted using a variety of natural and responsibly-sourced materials to ensure eco-credibility and minimise impact on the environment.

Key features of Planted's furniture range include:

Frames

Frames are created using FSC beech, with 100% recyclable Coil Sprung Mesh Top Units used for secure suspension. Natural hessian, rubberised hair (40% natural latex, 30% animal hair and 30% coco fibre) and cotton, wool felt and wadding are then added.

Cushions

Ethically-sourced bi-product feather cushions are used, meaning less harm is caused to ducks, with wool cushion inners also offered for those in search of a firmer seat. Each of the cushion zips are made from recycled bottles, which can go on to be recycled themselves.

Linen

All linen cover options are sourced from suppliers who use techniques that are gentle on the land, without using irrigation, fertilizers or pesticides. Every care is taken to ensure that flax plants are grown and processed in an eco-friendly way and that the finished linen product is 100% biodegradable and recyclable.

Cotton Velvet

Planted's cotton velvet cover options are natural, biodegradable and fully Oeko-Tex certified; ensuring it is free from harmful chemicals.

Recycled Cotton

The new furniture range also offers recycled cotton fabric as a cover option, created using 80% recycled cotton yarns originating from the fashion industry; the remaining 20% consisting of recycled polyester. All yarns are meticulously inspected and assessed in accordance with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) 4.0.

Prices start from £758 for the 'Slubby' Footstool / £2209 for the 'Slubby' Armchair, handmade to order. Bespoke options are also available. The full collection will be available to view/ purchase at www.plantedfurniture.com.

Daisy Brazil, Co-Founder of Planted, said the following about the thinking behind its creation:

“Having both worked within the furniture-making and upholstery business following our time at university, it was with the birth of our second child - and facing his serious health issues - that really realigned what was important to us. Both of us knew at first-hand how many plastics are involved in the furniture making process and, with our son's health (thankfully) improving, we took the bold decision to follow our passions, quit our jobs and create a brand that could rewrite the rules on style and sustainability; showing the furniture industry that quality, style-conscious furniture needn't use plastic in the way that it's sadly become so dependent on over the decades.

“We recognised quite quickly that no real effort was being made by others to create a fully-recyclable option for those in search of truly sustainable furniture for the home, and - even less so - sustainable furniture that actually looked good, made with quality and longevity in mind. That's where Planted comes in. We have meticulously designed every element of every item in the collection to ensure that each has the correct rake, enough depth and is above all practical and comfortable, using traditional furniture-making techniques that so often get left behind with the mass market.

“The modern home shouldn't have to decide between style and sustainability. We're here to change that.”
