Karen Blixen's Christmas

Rosendahl

When the Christmas tree was lit up at Karen Blixen's home, Rungstedlund, the candles were reflected in the gleaming decorations, giving the room a unique glow. “The shiny metal embellishes the green spruce and twinkles beautifully in the glow of the candles,” explains Ole Kortzau, the designer behind Rosendahl's new range of Christmas decorations.

Karen Blixen's Christmas is a comprehensive range and is available in 24-carat gold plate or sterling silver plate. For the tree, there are candle holders, Christmas hearts, angels and a star to go on top. The plan is to bring out new items each year.

“The candle holder took shape from the idea of a flower on a stalk, to keep the candle balanced,” Ole Kortzau explains. “Karen Blixen loved to surround herself with flowers, so flowers are a recurring theme all through the various elements of the range. Design must never be either too artful or too rational. I like it best when things are rooted in the past and have a story to tell,” Kortzau concludes.

Notes to Editors:

Rosendahl is the official sponsor of the Karen Blixen Museum, and for every piece of Karen Blixen's Christmas sold, a donation is made towards new exhibitions at the Rungstedlund museum. “We are delighted to be able to make a contribution as the main sponsor of the Karen Blixen Museum's efforts to preserve the artistic legacy of Karen Blixen. Partnership with the museum will help to strengthen our brand in Denmark and internationally, while also giving us the opportunity to develop entirely new related concepts,” according to Erik Rosendahl, chairman of the board and founder of Rosendahl.

The museum north of Copenhagen is an autonomous institution under the Rungstedlund Foundation. It depends on funding to continue the work of preserving Karen Blixen's lovely house, Rungstedlund, and showcasing the writer's life and work. The museum has been in existence for 17 years now and has drawn close to a million visitors from all over the world.
