Department store John Lewis last night beat off stiff competition from retail giants IKEA and eBay to be named both 'Home Retailer of the Year' and 'Best Online Home Retailer' at the 6th annual House Beautiful Awards.
The department store scooped House Beautiful magazine's top accolades for a second year running, proving it's a firm favourite with those shopping for their homes. House Beautiful readers voted John Lewis into the top spot in two of the three reader-voted categories, impressed with both its online and retail offerings.
In addition to the three reader-voted awards, there were 22 other categories in which winners were selected by the House Beautiful team and an impressive panel of judges including home experts John Rocha, Sophie Conran, Jeff Banks and Oliver Heath.
The House Beautiful Awards 2009, held at the British Film Institute in London, encompassed 25 categories, honouring not only the best home retailers, but also the best household products and home TV personalities.
Alongside John Lewis, other winners on the night included TV Presenter Alan Titchmarsh, who picked up an award for 'Favourite Home or Lifestyle TV Celebrity', as selected by House Beautiful readers. Harlequin picked up the 'Fabric Range of the Year' award for their Iznik collection, and Kersaint Cobb's Designer Sisal Collection won 'Best Carpet Range'. The innovative and stylish Arroba Lighting range by Natuzzi won 'Interior Collection of the Year' for its stunning design. Julia Goodwin, Editor of House Beautiful, says: “These winning products combine tremendous quality with long-lasting value for money. In difficult economic times, home lovers need to know they are getting the best for their cash – with these products they can be sure of that.”
