Desser Go Bananas Over New 'Kendal' Range

Cane and rattan retailer, Desser & Company has literally 'gone bananas' by introducing a new product into their range made from banana leaves.

Desser's latest range of furniture, the 'Kendal' is made from a product more commonly found in everyday use in Asia and Indonesia but which is being rediscovered and is proving popular in Europe as a strong, sustainable natural material for furniture.

Banana leaf is rolled and dried then plaited or twirled by hand to create a sturdy rope in various thicknesses to create elaborate, beautiful furniture on a wooden frame. Desser's Kendal furniture is a curvy, full-figured suite at the upper end of the range. Each piece has proper web-sprung seats and loose covered cream cotton cushions which can be dry cleaned.

The banana leaf furniture has a special, warm, aesthetic feel about it with comfort ensured by foam-filled, dacron wrapped base and arm cushions as well as channel fibre filled back cushions.

As banana leaves are a renewable crop often discarded after the plant fruits, Desser's Kendal range makes a sensible 'eco-purchase'.
