With no formal training in cabinetmaking, Bill Garvey began making hand-crafted wooden cigar and jewellery boxes in 1971, having turned his back on medical school. His clients included Harrods, Dunhill and Asprey and the business grew steadily to include individual furniture items.

In 1976 he moved to the 12-acre site of an abandoned dairy farm, in Devon complete with outbuildings and a house, all of which he has restored. Focusing on the luxury end of the market, William Garvey Ltd has established relationships with both commercial and private clients and projects vary from residential interiors through to large scale commercial environments.

Best known for his striking teak baths and basins William Garvey also designs and builds a diverse range of top-quality, custom-made products for business and private clients both in UK and abroad. Led by founder Bill Garvey, the company is now considered one of Europe's leading contemporary furniture designers and employs 16 makers, 2 designers and 5 office staff.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Current major projects include the furniture for a large apartment in Moscow, a series of individual pieces for a modernist building in Zurich to sit alongside furniture by Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe and the design manufacture and installation of the first of a new series of integrated signaling centres for Network Rail at Didcot. In bathroom furniture we are working with Roman & Williams Architects to supply five bathrooms for a house in Hawaii and in London on a complete spa area for a private house in Hampstead which will include sauna, Jacuzzi and an internal pool.
