Sauce Communications is delighted to announce that we are now handling the PR for Meraki Design, a London-based interior design studio founded by Maria Constantinou and Eris Koutsoudakis.
Founded in 2013, Meraki Design creates unique interiors for boutique hotels, private residences, and commercial projects such as retail stores, bars and restaurants. Accomplished projects over the past 4 years include high end private residences in London, Surrey, Crete and Milos, commercial projects including Tserkov, a luxurious retail store in Mykonos, and several bar and restaurant projects such as the bar at The Mill at Sonning. Meraki recently completed Lympstone Manor, a 21 bedroom boutique hotel in East Devon helmed by Michael Caines which has enjoyed stellar critical acclaim since opening in April.
Meraki Design creates interiors concepts by doing extensive background research for each project. The design principals are based acutely on the client's needs, the history of the property and its context. This approach generates a firm foundation for beautiful spaces that are understated, timeless with attention to the slightest detail. “Meraki” is a Greek word used to describe something that is done with soul, creativity and love – as the name of their practice implies, Eris and Maria pour their heart and soul into every project they undertake. Based in their studio in Fulham, London, Eris and Maria employ a small team working closely under their guidance.
Maria and Eris were both born in South Africa and completed their schooling in Greece. After completing a BA in Business Administration in Athens, Maria studied Interior Design at Italy's world renowned school of design in Milan, the Istituto Marangoni. Eris completed a BA in Interior Architecture in Johannesburg, passing with a distinction and winning multiple awards during her studies such as South African Design Student of the Year and most notably was awarded the Emerging Creative Award by the South African Department of Arts & Culture.
Both Maria and Eris completed an MA in Interior Design at London's Westminster University and have both worked for leading interior designers and practices in the commercial, hotel, restaurant and high end residential sector for many years before setting up Meraki Design, previously working for clients such as Intercontinental Hotels and on iconic properties such as North Island Seychelles and Serra Cafema in Namibia. Their experience, passion for design, hard work and creativity is fundamental in assuring a complete service to clients. From concept to realization, their team provides professional purchasing, project management and onsite installation services.
“Our understanding and experience of interior design isn't just practical; we add that extra bit of soul to every project we work on. Our goal is to create sophisticated, modern and efficient interiors with layers of warmth, comfort and character. We design projects for those who appreciate beauty, comfort and attention to detail. We are looking forward to working with Sauce Communications to share our work and our story more widely as we grow our profile and our business in to the next exciting phase.” Maria Constantinou, co-founder, Meraki Design.
Current and future projects by Meraki Design include Coach & Horses, a new restaurant with rooms and a member's lounge set to open in Farringdon in early 2018, and sister property Truscott Arms set to open in Maida Vale in 2018; a restaurant at The Mill at Sonning, a space for theatre, drinking and dining set within an old Mill on the River Thames; and a number of private residences in London.
Meraki will also be launching a homeware product range later this year, designed to bring some of the individually sourced and wonderfully unexpected items Eris and Maria love discovering to consumers.
