New Ceramic Knife Brand: Rocknife, At The Cutting Edge

Rocknife

With eye-catching design, elite quality and beautiful craftsmanship, Rocknife is an essential for anyone who cares about their kitchen.

Rocknife is a new brand specialising in Ceramic Kitchen Knives. It creates and designs its own kitchenware in the UK. From the shape of the handle to the design on the blade, each aspect of the product is carefully put together by Rocknife's own designers before being prototyped and tested. Quality testing and evaluation is paramount to the success of the product going into final production. Rocknife brings a fresh and irreverent brand to the industry, based on form, function, and fun.

Why Ceramic for Knives?

It boils down to science and evolution, where a ceramic called Zirconium Oxide, combined with state of the art manufacturing processes results in a harder, sharper material than its metal competitors. There are also other elements that make Rocknife a preferable option - they do not rust or oxidise the food and they provide an extremely sharp and easy cut. Also, Rocknife is so hard that it does not lose its edge – The only sharpener you need in a Rocknife kitchen comes in a glass with ice and a slice.

It's not just about the technical aspects; Rocknife is as much about design and function as elite craftsmanship. Where knives should look fabulous as well as do the job well! Rocknife has designed a black and white chequered pattern for all its blades and colour options for the handles, a totally unique and design-led knife option for today's kitchens, suited to casual home cooks as well as professional chefs.

About Rocknife Ltd  www.rocknife.com

Rocknife Ltd is the brainchild of 5 friends with a passion for finely sliced tomatoes, conceived and created somewhere in a field in Dorset.  As far as we know, Rocknife is the only knife so sharp that they come with a set of plasters in each box.

Founded by Damian (designer and finance, 39) and Madeleine Cardozo (photographer and marketing 37), Guy (web designer 39) and Henny Hoogewerf (sales and dispatch 33) and Tom Hughes (marketing 34).

Rocknife Ltd opened for business in July 2014 as an internet-based business selling primarily through its own website www.rocknife.com.

About the Rocknife manufacturing process

Rocknife blades are made from hardened Zirconium Oxide (ceramic). The hardening process involves the moulded blades being compressed using a 400 ton press, and then sintered (heated). The blades are then hand sharpened.  The handles are made from AVS plastic, coated with a TPR Coating to give a soft grip feel to the handle.

Ceramic knives are far sharper than steel, measuring 7.5 on the Mohs Scale compared to steel at 4.5 and Diamond at 10, because of this hardness they remain that sharp for years to come.
