Introducing Sendai
Louis De Poortere unveils Sendai as part of its 2026 collection, a rug conceived as a study in colour, gesture and quiet movement.
Drawing from traditional Indian fabric dyeing techniques, the design reflects the delicate moment where pigments dissolve into one another, forming gradients of remarkable subtlety. These artisanal references are not reproduced literally; instead, they are distilled into a contemporary language that captures the emotional resonance of handcrafted processes through light, rhythm and tone.
In Sendai, colour behaves as a living surface. Each transition is carefully orchestrated to balance discipline with fluidity, allowing hues to breathe across the rug in expansive, softened fields.
The composition feels both intentional and open, where spontaneity exists within structure. This tension gives the piece its quiet strength, modern in scale and clarity, yet imbued with the softness of its origins.
Offered in four atmospheric colourways, Cottage Grey, Forest Mood, Rosebud and Deep Water, the palette moves from muted mineral neutrals to saturated botanical and aquatic tones, each expressing a different emotional register of the same design.
The result is a rug that settles effortlessly into contemporary interiors, offering presence without excess. It defines space through nuance rather than statement, bringing warmth, depth and atmosphere while preserving a sense of calm. Like a landscape revealed through layers of light and shadow, SENDAI rewards close attention, inviting contemplation and lending interiors a refined, enduring elegance.
