The 2nd Biophilic Design Conference powered by the Journal of Biophilic Design, takes place Monday 17 November 2025 at the iconic Westminster Central Hall, steps away from the seat of government and the heart of UK policymaking.
The 2026 theme 'Policy, Place, Planet - Biophilic Design for a Regenerative Future' will focus on bringing about change in a time of rapid urbanisation. With climate urgency and shifting social priorities, the conference will explore how cities and places can become living systems that are healthier, more resilient and regenerative for people, nature and the economy alike. Located strategically in the heart of Parliament, the conference unites global leaders, policymakers, urban designers, researchers, health professionals, educators, and investors in a shared mission to rethink how biophilic design can drive innovation, unlock new markets and shape future policy.
“We are nature. Biophilic Design reconnects us to that truth, and this conference is about making that connection visible, actionable, and influential,” said Vanessa Champion, Founder of the Journal of Biophilic Design. “This is a gathering across industry, bridging research and practice proving change is happening at all different levels, we just need to augment the voices of those who are doing the right thing, as a result we are thrilled to also be welcoming MPs and members of the House of Lords who have confirmed attendance”.
More than thirty expert speakers, five hundred attendees and thirty exhibitors will be present, participating in roundtable discussions, idea activation workshops and networking sessions to spark collaboration and drive real-world impactful change. With 'in conversation' style debates, mini-TED-style talks, cutting-edge research presentations and material innovation showcases, topics across the day will include cities, governance, sensory design, architecture, water, interior design, net zero, the economics of biophilic design, wellbeing and eco-urbanism.
Representatives from Government, the British Institute of Interior Design, RSPB, the NHS, and other global leading organisations will be present with a line-up of expert keynote speakers that include Tye Farrow (award winning Farrow Architects specialising in timber buildings), Nick Grayson, (the lead on making Birmingham a Biophilic City), award winning Landscape Architects Davies White who have worked with Prince William, Rob Delius head of sustainability for Stride Treglown, Adrian Wong UK Forest lead for SUgi, British Institute of Interior Designers panel (BIID), Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Peers for the Planet, the Jane Goodall Institute, the Alliance for Sustainable Building products and many more.
Dynamic immersive 360-degree biophilic experience. Entering the conference attendees will walk through a 'Virtual Nature' experience where founder Vanessa Champion also an artist, worked with musician and sound guru George Harvey, to welcome guests into an immersive zone using digital forms of nature to connect the audience directly to he heartbeat of nature. Literally.
The new experiential pop up 'Biophilic Pharmacy', raising awareness of the implementation of biophilia in cities presents each guest with a 'prescription box' that includes seeds for planting and a 'side effects' leaflet outlining the consequences of not implementing biophilia in the urban landscape. Conceived by Rob Delius, head of sustainability of Stride Treglown (and creator of the Funeral of Nature which took place earlier this year in Bath) ,Vanessa Champion and Nick Grayson.
Soundscaping. Additionally, in the main auditorium 'Moodsonic' present a unique sound-scaping experience using virtual nature to energise and ground the audience across the day.
The choice of Westminster Central Hall is symbolic and strategic - once a meeting place for the Suffragettes, Martin Luther King, and many other change makers, this central government location proudly plays host to this year's Biophilic Conference. Bringing together a new generation of advocates fighting for a healthier, more connected planet the conference seeks to amplify voices that are shaping the future of design, policy, and wellbeing.
“The inaugural Biophilic Conference in 2024, based at the Barbican explored how plants and urban landscapes can transform our cities into living, breathing ecosystems. This year, in the heart of Westminster, we're taking that vision one step further', says Vanessa Champion, Founder, Journal of Biophilic Design, 'on the doorstep of policymakers we aim to turn inspiration into action and ensure biophilic design becomes a cornerstone of how we shape the future of our built environment'.
