This year's panel is made up of a variety of industry leaders, each offering insight into their field. The judges include Muyiwa Oki, President of RIBA, Tina Norden, Principal at Conran & Partners, Arthur Mamou-Mani, Director of Mamou-Mani, Seetal Solanki, Founder and Director of Ma-tt-er, Barbara Chandler, Founder of Green Grads, Oscar Pearce, Co-Founder of Design Burger, Michael Grubb, Founder of Michael Grubb Studio, Tim Bowder-Ridger, Principle and Partner at Conran and Partners, Roddy Clarke, Design Journalist, Presenter & Consultant and Tim Gledstone, Partner at Squire & Partners.
The Surface Design Show will also award an Outstanding Contribution Award which will be given to a practice or studio that has made an 'Outstanding Contribution' to the industry.
Winners of the awards will be announced during SDS26 at London's Business Design Centre on Wednesday the 4th of February at 6pm. Last year's reception saw hundreds of visitors and exhibitors alike gather to celebrate the winners and enjoy a live band coupled with champagne. The 2025 edition of the awards were presented by property expert and broadcaster Kunle Barker and were designed by The Good Plastic Company.
The Surface Design Awards are structured around 'Project' and 'Product' categories plus three special awards;
Project categories are judged on five main criteria: creative use and integration of surface materials, functionality and user experience, innovation and concept originality, material sustainability and execution, and sustainability and social/environmental impact. Specific categories include Lighting, Hospitality, Public Realm, Facades and Regenerative Design.
Product categories are judged on five criteria: design originality and innovation, sustainability and lifecycle impact, technical performance, craftsmanship and materiality, and market relevance and user benefit. Specific categories include Innovation, Sustainability, Material Transformation, Heritage & Craft and Digital Integration.
The three additional awards are;
Emerging Talent: This award is invite only and free of charge, targeting student projects and universities and includes public voting.
Supreme Winner: This award is not available to enter; the winner will be selected solely from the category winners by the judges with no shortlist.
Outstanding Contribution: This award is selected by Surface Design Show and given to a practice or studio for making an 'Outstanding Contribution' to the industry.
