To celebrate 20 years in business, Zardi & Zardi is launching six new colourways of our popular Chinoiserie wallpaper. Copied from a hand-painted panorama hanging in a private home, it is as near to the original as you could find. Many months were spent lovingly recreating the mottled background to give it an aged look, mimicking the subtle colour palette to create a faithful reproduction. The result is a supremely elegant design of trailing branches, exotic birds, pomegranates, fruits, flowering trees and jardinieres.

Our original colours Chalk White, Siskin Green and China Blue will be joined by Garden Tiger, Jadite, Malachite, Maple Moth, Mazarine Blue ~ Vivante and Mazarine Blue ~ Calme. The colour choices in this collection range from bold to serene with both warm and cool palettes depending on the setting and desired mood. Complimentary colours create balance within the composition, with deliberate accents of rich raspberry, deep violet and lustrous blue. This design can hold its own in a grand drawing room or quiet dressing room, always making an elegant statement.

The emergence of Chinese wallpaper occurred as part of a Europe-wide trend from around 1740 and remained in fashion for the next 100 years. From the moment Chinoiserie landed on English shores it was an instant hit. Every grand estate in the country had at least one room decorated in Chinoiserie – it was the height of fashion.  After centuries of appeal, chinoiserie continues to attract a new generation of decorators for its exotic, timeless quality.

Our best-selling Chinoiserie design is also available as fabric panels, printed on a delicate, lightweight linen which hangs beautifully. Repeat patterns Blossom and Papillon perfectly complement the chinoiserie to complete this range.
