The appeal for additional room, a dedicated independent space in which to claim solitude for work, study or play is just one aspect this last year has highlighted to many households.
Parents continue to vie for workspace at home in place of daily commuting and our homes have had to adapt to become multi-purpose and expand to suit everyone's individual needs in ways we may not have previously been aware of. Combining this need and the desire for a complete change in career is how the concept of Hutsmith came into being by founder Dudley Radford.
Dudley says 'Our ethos in creating Hutsmith was to bring a fresh new design aesthetic with the commitment to using local materials and efficient build processes to minimise waste. Each cabin is made using British grown timber and produced in our own workshop powered by 100% green energy.
Hutsmith also support the Treesisters charity https://treesisters.org/ promoting empowerment of women around the world around to aid tropical reforestation projects.
Each cabin is crafted by Hutsmith's expert team of designers and carpenters from its own workshop; it is also members of this same dedicated team that will then accompany the delivery of every cabin, having built as much as possible in the factory ready to install on site and oversee the final build of the project.
The cabins are offered in three design styles each with differing windows options from full width skylights to large reading windows and varying door choices. Clad in a striking natural or charred Larch the elegant exterior also features a cleverly concealed guttering system to complement uninterrupted design lines. Interiors equally showcase an unfussy pure finish of fully insulated natural ply lining, double glazed windows and doors, power points and USB sockets. Additional options of a mezzanine sleeping platform, underfloor heating, solar power, kitchen area, bathroom and wood stove are all offered. Hutsmith is also happy to create bespoke elements tailored to specific client requirements.
Dudley comments – 'We love the modular system of our cabins as it means typically, we can transport each finished piece to site and have if fully up and in use in just a few days. They sit on groundscrews, so minimising ground impact and concrete avoidance. Each member of our team love exploring outdoors and as we have all been restricted from venturing further afield in recent times, it has made us appreciate what we have in our own gardens and homes. The idea of producing a dedicated room to use as a workspace, studio, gym, additional bedroom or simply to chill out is a great addition to any home, especially if it is built to the same standard as the house itself.
Cabins are priced from £22,000 plus VAT.
This unique collection of garden cabins is not only beautifully designed and crafted but have sustainability at their heart.
