An introduction to Den - Smart switches and sockets with a familiar feel

Wireless light switches and sockets are becoming more and more popular for those who are looking for smart technology and home automation. With many of them being complicated to use and styled too futuristically for many homes, Den has released a range of socket and light switches that will seamlessly integrate into any home, be familiar for anyone to use and have the smart functions fit for modern living.

Not only are Den products an easy replacement for old switches and sockets because they use the same wiring, but they also include state-of-the-art smart technology that can be controlled via the Den App or personal assistants such as Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa.

Key features of Den's smart switches and sockets

  • Classic style rocker switches for ease of use.
  • Bidirectional communication – the Den App knows the state of all switches synced to the system meaning it can control them anywhere in the world.
  • Meshing system – All Den products talk to each other using a custom wireless protocol meaning that it uses little energy compared to Wi-Fi. The meshing system also allows the sockets to communicate with each other socket to socket, extending the coverage throughout the home.
  • 2-way switching - All Den light switches support 2-way switching, meaning that two different switches can control one light fitting, ideal for larger rooms and hallways.

Smart Tags

Each socket is supplied with smart tags that help the sockets identify which appliances are plugged in, the location they are plugged in and whether the appliance is on or off.

Using the smart tags combined with an inbuilt mechanism in the sockets, you can measure how much energy each appliance is using and see how much energy your sockets are consuming in real time.

Features of the Den App

  • The Den App will send you notifications when you've forgotten to turn off appliances like hair straighteners or irons. It can also send you notifications if someone's accidentally turned off an appliance such as a fridge or freezer.
  • The app provides information about when motion sensors are triggered and provides notifications when lights are left on.
  • Set up multiple timers and schedules per day for each appliance and light switch connected to the system. Users can also schedule when the motion sensor is active and when to get notifications.
  • One of the features unique to Den switches is that when users turn the switch on or off via the App, the switch on the wall will also flick to correspond with the change of state.

How to get started with Den Smart switches and sockets

In order to get started with the Den Smart system, you will need the following:

The Den Hub – This is the brains of the operation and allows all Den products to talk to each other. One Den Hub is enough to cover the range of a typical large house as our products talk to each other using a custom wireless protocol built on IEEE 802.15.4; it uses low-power digital radio signals making it much more energy efficient than compared to Wi-Fi systems. With the Den Hub, you can control your devices using the App even when there is no internet connectivity as long as you are connected to the same network as the Den Hub.

The App – Available from the Google Play Store for Android or the App Store for Apple iOS devices, the Den App is completely free and allows you to control all your Den devices from one interface. You can, of course, also operate each switch and socket manually like standard switches and sockets. Every Den product supports bi-directional communication so if you manually toggle a switch on or off it will show its state in the app too. The app allows users to set timers and schedules, monitor energy consumption and receive notifications when lights or appliances are left on.

The Den Products - All of Den's Switches and Sockets look and work just like standard ones apart from the fact they are also Smart. Turn off lights from the comfort of your bed with just one click, and check on your loved ones with our App notifications. Den's products are an easy replacement for old switches and sockets, featuring the same wiring, but including our new Smart technology.

Use the included Smart Tags to control and name appliances for ease of use through the Den App and use our Motion Sensors to create multiple time schedules for both light switches and appliances. Den products can also be controlled through personal assistants such as Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, integrating effortlessly to add convenience in your home.
