La Manufacture Cogolin will unveil in its Paris showroom its latest collection, Isotopie, a new chapter to the story written by the prestigious rug-maker since 1924.
La Manufacture offers a subtle variation of its Provençal heritage with a fresh, playful collection of bright, graphic motifs. Woven in La Manufacture's workshops on its 19th century Jacquard handlooms, four new high-relief patterns offer a new interpretation of one of the Provençal house's classic themes: repetition.
“In contrast to what we have done in recent years, we decided to work this time in a smaller scale,” explains Jean-Pierre Tortil. It is a lighthearted approach for the workshop, where the weavers perform a harmonious ballet punctuated by the rhythm of their shuttles and reeds, moving to the tune of ancestral artisanal techniques.
Baptized Isotopie, Allitération, Diaphore and Syllepse, all stylistic devices synonymous with repetition, the distinction of each of the four designs stems from the recurrence of its symmetrical motifs. The designs borrow from the textile world with the reinterpretation of houndstooth motifs or from Sixties and Seventies ceramics with an hourglass pattern positioned at different angles. Such geometric variations are the demonstration of La Manufacture Cogolin's ability to couple modernity with ancestral techniques. Playing with solid and void, the patterns are woven in contrasting colours to better highlight the relief patterns of the cut-pile and loop motifs, enhanced by the use of bright, almost fluorescent, tones like peacock blue, absinthe green and sunflower yellow… These daring shades are mixed together to create the textured motifs on each rug, creating a surprisingly balanced chromatic harmony to catch the sensitive eye of the most discerning observer.
